Using a storage facility rental is a great way to keep some of your special belongings safe without them taking up space in your own home. You just want to be mindful of what the storage facility offers to ensure that you choose a rental that is right for you and your belongings. Here are four things to look at when you are choosing a self storage facility:

  1. Location: First off, you probably want your storage facility to be located as close as possible to your home. This way, you are able to get to the storage facility more easily, especially last minute when you might need something unexpectedly. You also want to be mindful of local traffic. If the facility is located on a busy road that has a lot of built up traffic during the day, then this might not end up being the most convenient location. 
  2. Space: Next, you want to be sure that the storage facility offers storage space that is large enough for what you need it for. On the other hand, if you need a small space for papers or photos, you want to be sure that there is a small space that is much more affordable. Otherwise, you will be paying for a larger space that you don't actually need. Be sure to look at the spaces physically so that you can better decide if the facility has a size you are happy with.
  3. Access: On top of having a location that is accessible, you also want to be sure that your actual unit is accessible for when you need it. This becomes a problem when you are only allowed to enter the facility during certain hours of the day. Once the facility closes, then you can't have access. There are facilities that offer 24/7 access, though if you feel that this is something you will need. 
  4. Security: Depending on what you are storing, you may want to ensure that there is top notch security. For example, security cameras, guest check in and check out, which means that everyone who enters the facility must write down their name. If the facility is 24/7, then you also want to be sure that there is ample lighting so that you feel safe going there to get your belongings at night or in the early part of the day.

Checking these four things out on top of visiting at least two or three facilities will ensure that you choose the right one for your specific needs.
